One of the owners of a store on Airline Highway accidentally shot and wounded himself Thursday afternoon while getting into his car, the Baton Rouge police said.

The victim, whom police did not identify, was on his way to another business owned by the family. As he pulled a handgun out of his back pocket outside the In and Out Wireless Store at 7310 Airline Highway, the gun accidentally discharged, striking him in the leg, said Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., a spokesman for the Baton Rouge police.

Coppola said the victim was taken to a hospital but his injuries are not life-threatening.
