A fire at LSU's Student Health Center Thursday evening caused about $70,000 worth of damage, according to a Baton Rouge Fire Department release.

The fire, which broke out at about 8:24 p.m. Thursday night was under control at 8:40 p.m., according to Curt Monte, spokesman for BRFD.

"The fortunate thing tonight is there were only two workers that were in the building," Monte said, noting the workers were able to exit the building and call 911.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but there were reports of "popping noises" from the area of the building where the fire originated, Monte said.
