A family of three escaped unharmed as the back porch and attic of their home at 1012 Progress Road burned early Monday, the Baton Rouge Fire Department announced.

Firefighters arrived at 2:30 a.m. Monday and had the blaze under control by 2:38 a.m., department spokesman Curt Monte said in a press release.

The fire did an estimated $10,000 damage to the $50,000 house, plus another $1,000 to contents, he said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but investigators do not suspect foul play, Monte said.
