One man was killed and nine others injured, including four young children, in a three-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning in East Feliciana Parish.

The crash happened shortly after 8 a.m. on La. 67, also known as Plank Road, north of La. 959 and south of Clinton, Louisiana State Police spokesman Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee said in a news release.

James McFadden III, 51, of Amite, died at the scene after the Ford Ranger he was driving was struck head-on by a Ford F-150 driven by 18-year-old Michael Davidson, of Slaughter, Lee said.

Davidson’s truck, traveling north on La. 67, crossed into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons, Lee said. The truck sideswiped a southbound Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Shaletha Loyd, 42, of Clinton, before ramming into McFadden’s vehicle.

Though McFadden was wearing a seat belt, he was fatally injured in the wreck. His passenger, who was also restrained, was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with moderate to severe injuries, Lee said.

Loyd and her five passengers — including four children ages 5 to 9 and a 35-year-old adult — had been wearing seat belts and were taken to the Lake with moderate wounds, Lee said. Davidson and an occupant inside his truck, both of whom had been restrained, also suffered moderate injuries and were treated at the hospital.

Impairment is not suspected in the crash, Lee said. A toxicology sample from all the drivers involved will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Charges in the incident are pending and it remains under investigation, Lee said.
