BR man arrested in raid admits to thefts

A man arrested with just over three-quarters of a pound of marijuana, 754 doses of Ecstasy, a .45-caliber pistol and $18,000 in cash admitted to stealing the items from someone he did time with in prison, court documents show.

The court filings reveal new details of a Tuesday raid on a home near Perkins Road that was carried out by Delta Narcotics Task Force agents. The raid led to the arrests of Morrow Payton, 45, and Quinteller Jones, 36, both of 13760 Chalmette Ave., Baton Rouge, on drug and weapons counts.

Payton said during questioning that the person with whom he spent time in prison did not take care of Payton’s needs after he was released and so Payton decided to rob him, according to the affidavit for the search warrant.

Payton also made death threats toward an agent during the arrest, claiming he knows where that agent lives and was intent on “touching” the agent whenever he chose to — a term for death or grave harm, according to the affidavit. He also stressed that he would fire at officers if he was released.

Jones claimed she made the $18,000 from selling candy and novelty baskets that she made herself.
