State public health officials announced Thursday the ban of a new strain of synthetic marijuana similar to ones already prohibited because of adverse side effects.

The designer drug 5f-ADB, sold under the name Blue Nugs, can cause nausea, vomiting, and violent thoughts and actions, public health experts said.

Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Kathy Kliebert signed an emergency rule Thursday that bans the sale of the product.

The ban adds the drug to the list of Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substances, which includes marijuana and synthetic marijuana.
