A suspected drug dealer was shot and arrested Wednesday night after running his vehicle into a West Feliciana Sheriff’s Office deputy, who was treated on the scene for minor injuries, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department announced.

“In fear for his safety, the deputy discharged his duty weapon into the vehicle one time, striking (Larry) Hardesty in the upper right arm,” East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks said. “Hardesty continued a short distance before crashing his vehicle into a ditch.”

Hardesty, 38, was arrested after selling crack cocaine to members of the Delta Drug Task Force around 9:30 p.m. at a motel at 8227 Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, Hicks said.

The suspect, who was treated for his gunshot wound at a hospital, faces charges of attempted first degree murder, distribution of Schedule II C.D.S. (crack) and resisting an officer with force, Hicks said.
