Man flees during traffic stop, police find rifle and marijuana in vehicle, Sheriff’s Office reports _lowres

Items found inside the vehicle of a man who fled from officers Wednesday afternoon.

A man fled from and was later captured by officers Wednesday afternoon after leaving behind an AK-47 and drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that Markus Morris, 27, was being pulled over for non-working brake lights near Highland Road and Chatsworth Street when he jumped out of his automobile and ran. Deputies used police dogs to track Morris, who was found hiding under a house in the 100 block of Oklahoma Street, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Authorities discovered an AK-47, 31 live rounds and slightly more than an ounce of marijuana in Morris’ vehicle.

Morris, 265 Ellwood St., Baton Rouge, faces counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm with controlled dangerous substance, reckless operation of a vehicle, resisting an officer, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and brake lights required.
