Federal prosecutors on Tuesday charged the owner of a health care company with failing to pay more than $2.5 million in employee withholding taxes from 2008 to 2011.

Charles Lanphier, 68, of Lafayette, never sent the money to the IRS after he withheld it from his employees’ paychecks, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Walt Green’s Office.

Lanphier’s company, Regional Healthcare LLC, is based in Baton Rouge but has operations throughout Louisiana and Florida, according to the release.

Lanphier is charged with two counts of failing to truthfully account for and pay over taxes, the release said.

“If convicted, Lanphier faces significant incarceration, fines and restitution orders,” the release says.
