A 16-year-old eighth-grader at Westdale Middle School will be booked for bringing a loaded handgun to school Thursday, according to an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office news release.
A deputy responded to the 8:40 a.m. call at the Claycut Road school, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in the release.
The gun, which was in the student’s book sack, was reported to school officials anonymously, Hicks said in the release.
The student will be booked into the Juvenile Detention Center with carrying a firearm by a student on school property, Hicks said.
