A Louisiana State Police detective got into a foot chase and fight then shot an apparently armed burglar who broke into the detective's unmarked police car at his home early Sunday morning.
According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. in a North Ascension subdivision.
A neighbor alerted the detective that his police car was being broken into. APSO said the off-duty detective armed himself and went outside to confront the burglar, who had broken into the car and took "several valuable items."
A foot chase ensued, and the two began to fight. APSO said the burglar said he had a gun and "was prepraed to use it." The burglar reached into his pocket for a gun, and the detective shot the burglar in the abdomen, according to APSO.
The burglar's gun was found was by APSO deputies. He was taken to an area hospital. No details on his condition were provided.
