A fire at a vacant motel on North Foster Drive caught Sunday morning remains under investigation, Baton Rouge fire officials said.

Investigators believe an unknown number of people were illegally staying at the vacant motel at 1866 N. Foster Drive, Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Curt Monte said. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to the blaze about 8:50 a.m. Sunday and found one room engulfed in flames, Monte said. The blaze spread to an adjacent room and parts of the attic before firefighters brought it under control within 20 minutes.

The building did not have electricity. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Anyone with information in the fire is asked to contact investigators at (225) 354-1419.
