A Baton Rouge house was damaged in a fire Thursday, but neither of the two residents was in the dwelling at the time of the blaze, a fire official said.

The cause of the fire at 766 E. Buchanan St. is still under investigation, said Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Mark Miles. Firefighters arrived on scene at 10:31 a.m. to find flames coming from the side of the one-story house, he said.

The house sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. The blaze was brought under control at 10:43 a.m., Miles said.
