Thomas Patrick, 26

A woman who nearly blacked out and struggled to escape a hotel room told Baton Rouge police a man choked her there seven times within a half-hour period.

Thomas Patrick, 26, of 5574 Peerless St. in Baton Rouge, was arrested Sunday on counts of second-degree battery, aggravated assault with a firearm and false imprisonment.

He’s accused of battering a woman in the Day’s Inn at 2949 Varsity St. Saturday, threatening to kill her and trying to keep her from leaving, according to a Baton Rouge police report.

The woman told investigators Patrick entered the hotel room without her consent and immediately began beating her and choking her, causing her to foam at the mouth and nearly lose consciousness, according to the report. The choking happened seven times within 30 minutes, she said.

When the woman tried to escape, Patrick dragged her back inside and held a handgun to her head, saying he would kill her, according to the report.

The blood vessels in the woman’s eye appeared to have burst and there were marks on her neck, evidence consistent with choking, the statement said. The woman also had marks on her chest which she told police were from the struggle.

Three phone numbers associated with Patrick’s family were not in service Monday.

Patrick was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His bond does not appear to have been set.
