The driver of an 18-wheel truck was killed Friday evening when he parked on Florida Boulevard near North Corbin Road, tried to cross the street on foot and was struck by an oncoming vehicle, Walker police said.

It was not yet clear why the man had parked his truck and tried to cross the street, but he was struck and killed by an oncoming car around 7:30 p.m., according to Capt. John Sharp, a Walker Police Department spokesman.

The fatal incident closed westbound lanes of Florida Boulevard near North Corbin Road. Walker police were still on the scene investigating as of 9 p.m. Friday, and Sharp said he expected the westbound lanes would remain closed for a few more hours.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
