A 30-year-old Baton Rouge man was arrested Sunday and accused of shooting at his ex-girlfriend and another woman as they drove by in a car in August, Baton Rouge police said.
According to a police report, Elton Curtis Chambers Jr., 3345 Haley Drive, opened fire at the two women at about 3:20 a.m. Aug. 8, striking their car several times but leaving both women unharmed.
Chambers was booked into Parish Prison Sunday on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count each of illegal use of a weapon and aggravated criminal damage to property.
At the time of the shooting, both women told police that they had known Chambers since middle school. The ex-girlfriend said she’d dated Chambers for about a year and that he’d “beaten her constantly throughout their relationship,” according to the report.
After the pair broke up, Chamber had become even more violent, she told police. Incidents between Chambers and the woman had been reported to Baton Rouge police on several occasions, according to the report.
Bail for Chambers, who remained in Parish Prison Sunday evening, has been set at $160,000.
