Firefighters from the Baton Rouge Fire Department stumbled across an abandoned building completely engulfed in flames Monday afternoon while riding through their service area and despite their best efforts, were unable to save it.
Spokesman Robert Combs said the firefighters came across the fire at the corner of North 28th Street and Fairfield Avenue at 1:59 p.m., and extinguished the fire at 2:08 p.m.
“The structure had no utilities and could have possibly been being used as a warming area for people hanging out in the neighborhood,” Combs said.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is unknown and the investigation continues, Combs said.
