A Zachary man was arrested Wednesday after being accused of the 2008 rape of a woman in a field in the 3000 block of Greenwell Street. according to an arrest warrant.
Darnell Washington, 48, 535 W. Mt. Pleasant Road, was booked with forcible rape Wednesday by the Baton Rouge Police Department, according to jail records.
According to the warrant, the victim was walking home from a friend's' house at 11:30 p.m. on June 24, 2008 when a man she did not know approached and grabbed her, the warrant says.
The man put an object, which felt like the barrel of a gun, in the back of the victim's head and then instructed her to take off her pants and underwear, according to the warrant.
The victim told police she was scared she would be shot. The victim was then raped by the man, according to the warrant.
DNA from the rape kit that was collected after the crime matched Washington's DNA, the warrant says.
