A weekend night outing at a Baton Rouge nightclub ended with a man’s arrest after police said he raped a woman.

Johnny Lee Smith, 34, and a woman left the Dancers Club in the 5700 block of Airline Highway after midnight Sunday morning due to the woman vomiting, according to a Baton Rouge Police Department affidavit of probable cause.

Smith drove her to a dark location near the club, the document says, where he choked and raped the woman, according to the affidavit.

After the incident, Smith drove to another spot and got out of the automobile, allowing the woman to lock the doors, climb into the driver’s seat, and escape to the 800 block of South 17th Street where she called police, the statement said.

Smith later apologized to an officer, and said he couldn’t remember most of what happened, according to the affidavit.

Smith, of the 3300 block of Alliquippa Street in Baton Rouge, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of first-degree rape, sexual battery and simple battery. His bail has not been set, according to jail records.
