Baton Rouge police have identified the drivers in the three-vehicle accident on Interstate 12 Monday that left a 1-year-old boy in critical condition.

Veronica Williams, 28, of New Roads, was driving a Kia sport utility vehicle that ran off the Essen Lane entrance ramp and onto the interstate, colliding with two other vehicles, said Sgt. Donald Stone, a police spokesman.

Williams was in the Kia with five children ages 1, 2, 4, 8 and 9, Stone said.

The 1-year-old boy was ejected during the crash, landing on the interstate, Stone said.

None of the children, four of whom are Williams’, were restrained, Stone said.

Criminal and traffic charges are forthcoming, he said.

Stone identified the drivers of the other vehicles as Carl Mallet, 41, of Lake Charles, and Desiree Rene Lopez, 19, of New Port Richey, Fla.

Mallet had two adults and two children in his vehicle, Stone said. The adults suffered minor injuries, as did Lopez, Stone said.
