Baton Rouge police were involved in two separate vehicle chases Monday night, one that ended in a crash and two arrests on Spedale Street and another that ended with a crash on Flannery Road and a search for the driver, who ran from the scene.

In the first chase, two Baton Rouge men were arrested after they sped off from police and crashed into a building, rupturing a gas line, on Spedale Street south of Mohican Street.

Tramel Maten, 17, was driving the vehicle with Trevarion Jackson, 18, as his passenger when police tried to pull the vehicle over for a traffic violation, Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola said.

Maten did not stop, instead fleeing from police until he crashed into the building, causing a gas line to rupture, Coppola said. The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to the gas leak and secured it.

The men were arrested at 3800 Spedale St. about 7:20 p.m., Coppola said.

Maten, 3200 Millerville Road, was arrested on possession of marijuana, fugitive from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, illegal possession of stolen things, aggravated flight and aggravated criminal damage to property

Jackson, 8001 Jefferson Highway, was arrested on possession of marijuana, fugitive from the Sheriff’s Office and illegal possession of stolen things.

Coppola said they will be booked into Parish Prison.

The driver in the other chase fled the vehicle after it crashed at 800 S. Flannery Road near Brinwood Avenue. Police dogs were brought to the scene. It was unclear as of 10 p.m. Monday whether the driver had been caught.
