East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday arrested a man accused of trying to strangle a woman during an argument.
Reginald Shaw, 45, is accused of arguing with the woman, then pushing her and putting both hands around her throat at a Shaw’s Airline Highway residence, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.
The victim, who told a responding deputy that she remained conscious, had a scratch on her arm and large welts on her neck, the report says.
Shaw initially told the deputy that nothing happened, but after being handcuffed, he “began to claim that she attacked him and he was defending himself,” the report says. The deputy, however, noted in the report that Shaw didn’t have any marks on his body.
Shaw, 10920 Airline Highway, was booked into Parish Prison on one count of felony domestic abuse battery by strangulation. His bail information was not immediately available in online jail records.
