St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s deputies found the body of a 48-year-old man Sunday on La. 16 near the St. Helena-Livingston parish line, a sheriff’s official said.
Deputies are still trying to determine the cause of death of Sam Lathers, 48, no address given, who was found in an oxidation pond next to Silverfox Casino, St. Helena Sheriff’s Chief of Detectives Joe Cheney said.
The investigation is ongoing and autopsy reports are pending, Cheney said.
Deputies first received a call Saturday night about a missing person, Cheney said.
Deputies then received a call Sunday around 10 a.m. about clothes lying on the road near the Silverfox Casino that were believed to belong to Lathers, Cheney said.
Deputies found Lathers’ body in the oxidation pond next to the casino around 5 p.m. Sunday, Cheney said.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office provided a helicopter to help search for Lathers, Cheney said.
