A Baton Rouge man who tried to break up an escalating argument between his friend and his friend’s mom early Wednesday morning wound up getting stabbed in the neck, leaving him critically injured, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The assailant, Link Jacques, 23, 6630 Siegen Lane, got in a heated argument with his mother shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office report says.
As the argument escalated, Jacques’ friend, who was not identified, tried to intervene, standing between the two in an attempt to calm Jacques, the report says.
Instead, Jacques suddenly stabbed his friend in the neck during a brief struggle. The victim told sheriff’s deputies he didn’t know Jacques had a knife “until he felt the knife in his neck” and he saw the knife for the first time as Jacques pulled it out.
While being interviewed by detectives, Jacques admitted to stabbing his friend but claimed it was an accident, the report says.
The victim suffered a collapsed lung and was taken to the hospital for what the report describes as life-threatening injuries. It wasn’t immediately clear what the victim’s condition was Wednesday evening.
Deputies booked Jacques into Parish Prison on counts of attempted murder and illegal use of a weapon. His bail is set at $75,000.
