Baton Rouge police are searching for a man who followed a 76-year-old man into his apartment Saturday morning and attacked and robbed the elderly victim.

Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman, said the incident occurred in the 4600 block of Alvin Dark Avenue at about 8:50 a.m.

Neighbors told police they heard a tussle inside the apartment after the robber slipped inside, McKneely said. By the time the neighbors got into the unit, the robber had fled with some cash and a handgun.

The victim lost a part of his finger during a struggle with the robber but was otherwise OK, McKneely said.

The robber is around 22 years old and is well known among people in that part of the neighborhood, McKneely said.

Anyone with information on the identity of the robber is asked to contact the Baton Rouge police armed robbery division at (225) 389-3845.
