Baton Rouge firefighters responded to two separate blazes early Thursday morning that left a house destroyed and an apartment damaged without injuring anyone.

The cause of both fires remains under investigation but no foul play is suspected in either case, said Robert Combs, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman.

The first fire began in the dining room of a home in the 1800 block of Rosenwald Road around 12:30 a.m., Combs said. Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting out of the homes’ windows, and they tamed the blaze in about 30 minutes, Combs said.

Three residents of the home were present during the fire, but they weren’t injured.

The second fire happened about 2:30 a.m. at the Summer Grove Apartments in the 12000 block of Florida Boulevard, Combs said.

Investigators believe the fire began for unknown reasons in a Pontiac Grand Am next to the apartments before spreading to the building and another car, Combs said.

Firefighters arrived seven minutes after the first emergency call and had the fire under control seven minutes later, Combs said.

The fire moderately damaged two units closest to the cars that caught fire, Combs said, adding that the fire totaled the Pontiac and the other car, a Ford Mustang.
