One person was killed and two others were rushed to local hospitals with unknown injuries after a vehicle plunged off Interstate 10 near Perkins Road and landed on its roof around 9:15 p.m. Friday, Baton Rouge police reported in an updated news release.
The vehicle was traveling eastbound when it crashed with at least one car and veered over the side of the interstate, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.
When police arrived at 2900 Perkins Road, authorites discovered a vehicle on its roof with "multiple passengers" inside. No identification of passengers have been made at this time except to report that one was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others sustained injuries requiring immediate medical attention.
Traffic on I-10 had slowed but, as of 10 p.m. Friday, police had not closed any part of the interstate, McKneely said.
The vehicle landed in a popular Baton Rouge area where there are numerous bars and restaurants. There were no reports of injuries of anyone on the ground.
No further information was immediately available late Friday.
