School zones will be in effect across the capital city beginning Thursday, Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely Jr. said.

Starting at 6:30 a.m., 20 mph school zones will be enforced until 9 a.m., as well as from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. School guards will be out early in the morning, and McKneely encouraged drivers to be cautious near schools and bus stops.

Dalton Elementary and Celerity Crestworth do not follow the same dismissal times as others in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, he said.

In addition, there are a few private schools that will start this week, and McKneely urged drivers to adhere to traffic regulations in those particular areas.
