A Baton Rouge woman died Saturday as a result of serious injuries she sustained in a wreck Tuesday on Interstate 12 in Livingston Parish, State Police said.
Cheryl Douglas, 35, was driving west on I-12 east of La. 63 about 10 p.m. Tuesday when she crossed the median and drove into the path of an 18-wheeler, Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee said in a news release. Douglas, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from her 2006 Nissan Sentra when it collided with the oncoming 18-wheeler.
Douglas was taken to North Oaks Hospital, where she died from her injuries on Saturday, Lee said. The truck driver, Daniel Mendoza, 38, of Harlingen, Texas, received moderate injuries in the crash.
Troopers took toxicology samples from Douglas and Mendoza, but it is not yet known if impairment was a factor in the crash, Lee said.
