A man was arrested Friday in a shooting at a north Baton Rouge carwash, a police spokesman said.

Dasmond Franklin, 19, shot a 23-year-old man after 1 a.m. Friday as the man was walking near the carwash at 4200 N. Foster Drive, Sgt. Don Stone said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he is being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, Stone said.

Police were dispatched to the area of the shooting at 1:19 a.m., Stone said. When officers arrived, they saw several people, including Franklin, fleeing, Stone said.

Franklin, 12789 Erin St., was arrested and was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

Police investigating high school graffiti

Twelve teenagers were arrested Friday and accused of vandalizing property at University Lab School.

LSU Police were called to the school on Dalrymple Drive at 7 a.m. Thursday to investigate graffiti that had been spray painted on the exterior of several of the school’s buildings and sidewalks, said Capt. Cory Lalonde, a police spokesman.

Graffiti also was found on the school’s new athletic practice field, which is made of artificial turf, Lalonde said.

Lalonde could not say what the graffiti said, citing an ongoing investigation. He also did not know how much the damage cost, but said it was more than $500, making the vandalism a felony.

Authorities book 3 on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Thursday and 2:30 p.m. Friday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

• Lauren Appel, 20, 15622 Castle Ridge St., first-offense DWI, headlights required and license plate required.

• Lance Heinen, 22, 21014 Dama Landry Road, Jennings, first-offense DWI, reckless operation of a vehicle and improper lane usage.

• Jessica Trum, 39, 9268 Kingcrest Parkway, first-offense DWI, improper lane usage, driving with an expired license, motor vehicle insurance required/expired and expired motor vehicle inspection.
