A 20-year old Baton Rouge man was booked in parish prison Wednesday morning, accused of raping a woman at her condo on Brightside Drive.
Connor Whalen, 6225 Hope Estate Drive, faces counts of forcible second-degree rape and second-degree battery. His bond was set at $75,000.
The rape occurred Feb. 20 after Whalen and his accuser attended a sorority function together at the Renaissance Hotel, according to the arrest warrant.
The two returned to her place, hanging out with friends and later watching TV in her room, the warrant says. She told police she had indicated to Whalen she was going to sleep and thought he’d left, only to awaken later to him in her bed and making sexual advances that, despite her protests, led to the rape.
After Whalen left the following morning, the victim said a close friend took her to Women’s Hospital to undergo a sexual assault examination. She later provided police with a photograph of extensive bruising on her neck. She also showed authorities a text message Whalen later sent to her: “… please call me or something whatever I did was in no way malicious, I in no way meant to do anything for you to be in the hospital I’m so sorry please get back to me so we can talk.”
Whalen is a freshman pitcher for the Delgado Community College baseball team, according to the team’s online roster.
