After a brief car chase Thursday morning, Louisiana state troopers arrested two Texas residents accused of having counterfeit money.
Mike Rodriguez, 31, of Martindale, Texas, was driving east on Interstate 10 near Port Allen about 11:30 a.m. when troopers tried to pull him over on a traffic violation, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer said in a news release. Rodriguez refused to stop, making a U-turn across a grass median and crashing into a trooper’s vehicle, Sandifer said.
Rodriguez and his passenger, Brianna Martinez, 22, of Manor, Texas, began to run away but were caught shortly after, Sandifer said. When troopers searched Rodriguez’s car, they found about $940 in counterfeit $20 bills, the release says.
Investigators said Rodriguez is a member of the Texas-based Tango Blast gang and had several felony warrants out for his arrest.
Rodriguez was booked Thursday into West Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of improper lane usage, reckless operation, resisting an officer, flight from an officer, no driver’s license and monetary instrument abuse.
Martinez was booked on counts of resisting an officer and monetary instrument abuse.
