Baton Rouge police are asking for help in identifying a man suspected of robbing an Exxon gas station on Highland Road Tuesday morning.

The man walked into the Exxon, 5295 Highland Road, around 10:50 a.m. wielding a knife and demanded money from the clerk, said Sgt. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

He then ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash, Coppola said.

The robber was captured on a surveillance video entering the store and was described by police as a white man around 6 feet tall wearing a purple LSU hooded sweatshirt and a dark baseball cap.

East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies are seeking a man fitting a similar description who pulled a knife on a clerk at the CVS pharmacy on Burbank Drive Sunday evening.

Coppola said detectives haven’t determined whether the same man committed both robberies but that police detectives are working with deputies “to make any connections” between the cases.

Police are asking anyone with any information about the Exxon robbery to contact the Baton Rouge Police Department’s Armed Robbery divison at (225) 389-3845 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
