Firefighters late Friday extinguished a blaze at an Airline Highway business after a motorcycle inside the store caught fire.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at Audio Security System, 9515 Airline Highway, around 9:50 p.m., fire department spokesman Curt Monte said. Firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the building and brought the fire under control around 10:20 p.m., he said.

When firefighters went inside, a motorcycle was on fire and flames were extending up the rear wall of the garage-style store, Monte said.

“Investigators believe the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in the motorcycle’s engine,” he said.

Monte said the business had already closed for the night, and no one was injured.

Total damage is estimated at $50,000. Fire damage was contained to the motorcycle and rear wall, and a boat and two vehicles inside the store received smoke damage, Monte said.

Audio Security System offers speaker installation and window tinting, among other vehicle enhancements, according to the store’s website.
