A Broadmoor High School student was arrested Thursday after being caught with ammunition at school, an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.

A teacher found the ammunition inside the 11th-grader’s backpack and alerted authorities, Casey Rayborn Hicks said.

The 16-year-old student cooperated with deputies, taking them to the gun the ammunition went to at his home, Hicks said.

The student was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center on one count each of carrying a dangerous weapon by a student on school property and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, Hicks said.
