A convicted sex offender awaiting trial on charges of failing to register was arrested by Baton Rouge police Wednesday, accused of molesting two young children, according to an arrest warrant and court records.

James Edward Dyer, 52, 2327 W. Belfair Drive, was booked into Parish Prison on two counts of molestation of a juvenile. According to the arrest warrant, Dyer molested a 2-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl sometime in early September at his home.

Dyer had earlier been arrested by Baton Rouge police on May 11 for failing to register as a sex offender, a felony charge. It wasn’t immediately clear Wednesday what sex offense Dyer had originally been convicted of. A court hearing in the failure to register case had been scheduled for Dec. 9, according to court filings.

Dyer remained in Parish Prison Wednesday evening. Bail had been set at $100,000.
