Firefighters are working to extinguish a brush fire behind a Pecue Lane residence that has been ablaze since just after 8 a.m., said a spokesman with the St. George Fire Protection District.
Firefighters were first called to 6891 Pecue at 4 a.m., Eldon Ledoux said. When they arrived, they found a large brush fire behind a residence.
The fire was put out, only to reignite some time after 8 a.m., Ledoux said. Firefighters returned to the scene and have been there since.
Department of Public Works employees also are at the fire, trying to break up the brush, Ledoux said.
Pecue between Jefferson and Airline highways was closed for some time but is now open.
Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, said deputies issued a summons for an 11-year-old boy for setting the fire while there is a statewide burn ban.
