A Denham Springs woman was killed Wednesday afternoon when her car was struck head-on by a pickup truck, according to a Louisiana State police news release.

The fatal crash occurred after 3 p.m. on La. 1019 east of La 1022 in Livingston Parish, the release says.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Michael Mitchell, 39, Walker was driving a 2000 Ford pickup east on LA 1019 when he entered a right-hand curve, crossed the centerline, and side-swiped a 1992 Dodge pickup, the release says.

The Dodge, driven by Ronald Hays, 66, Denham Springs, then ran off the road to the right, went into a ditch, and overturned, the release says.

Hays was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. The Ford pickup continued east on the road and crashed head-on into a 1999 Lincoln passenger car, driven by 68-year-old Marion Wall, the release says.

Wall was fatally injured in the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner's Office, the release says.

Mitchell sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance Air-Med.

Troopers do not suspect impairment to have played a factor in the crash; however, samples of the drivers' blood have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis, the release says.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
