A vacant former Mexican restaurant outside the Cortana Mall caught fire late Saturday, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman said, totally destroying the building.

The fire started shortly before 11:30 p.m. at the former Cozumel restaurant at 9720 Cortana Place, said Mark Miles, and firefighters arrived to find flames spurting from the restaurant.

The doors to the building were locked and firefighters had to force their way inside, Miles said. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Fire officials hadn’t determined the cause of the fire Sunday morning, Miles said.
