A 36-year-old Baton Rouge man is accused of trying to pass a phone hidden in a wheelchair to an East Baton Rouge Parish Prison inmate.

Martin Rogers told a deputy he had a wheelchair to give to inmate Sherman Mealey, whose current wheelchair was broken, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office report says. The wheelchairs were supposed to be swapped, but when the new one was searched at the medical department, a nurse discovered an LG phone and charger hidden in the seat of the chair.

Rogers, 2867 Brig. General Isaac Smith Ave., was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of introducing contraband to a penal institution.
