Kevin Daigle, 54, of Lake Charles, is accused of shooting a Louisiana State Trooper in the head on August 23, 2015.

The man accused of fatally shooting a Louisiana state trooper last month was indicted Thursday on murder charges and will face the death penalty, Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier said.

Kevin Daigle, 54, of Lake Charles, was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Senior Trooper Steven Vincent on Aug. 23. He also faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Blake Brewer, a man later found slain in the residence he and Daigle shared, DeRosier said. Daigle also was charged by the grand jury with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, DeRosier said.

DeRosier said he will seek the death penalty as part of Daigle’s sentence.

Daigle shot Vincent, police said, after the lawman pulled over to help him along Fruge Road near La. 14 just outside Bell City.

As part of an investigation, authorities later discovered Brewer, 54, dead inside his Moss Bluff home, where Daigle had been living.
