A fire in a vacant house at 805 N. 29th St. in Baton Rouge caused the natural gas line under it to rupture Tuesday afternoon, fueling the blaze until Entergy crews could shut it off.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department deployed four pumper trucks, one ladder truck and two support vehicles, the first arriving at 4:09 p.m., and were able to keep the flames from the fully engulfed house from spreading to adjacent structures, department spokesperson Curt Monte said in an email.

By 5:01 p.m. the fire was under control, he said.

The house, valued at $70,000, was destroyed, he said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
