Police investigating apparent hit-and-run

Baton Rouge police responding to a call about someone lying in a road found the body of a 23-year-old lodged under a Honda sedan late Friday.

Officers found Darius Markie Fisher about 10:45 p.m. Friday at 3300 E. Brookstown Drive, said Cpl. Don Coppola, a police spokesman.

Fisher was found dead at the scene, Coppola said.

Police believe Fisher, of 6311 Rockwood Court, was first struck by another car that sped away, leaving Fisher lying in the roadway. It appears that it was then that he was struck by a Honda sedan heading south on Brookstown Drive, Coppola said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Traffic Homicide Division at 389-7819, or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.

BR man accused of kidnapping woman

Police say a 50-year-old man kidnapped his girlfriend of five years at gunpoint, drove her to a park and started hitting her leg with a hammer before she escaped.

Carl Minor, 50, pulled into his girlfriend’s driveway on Prescott Road on July 3 while she was outside, then climbed out of his car with a handgun drawn, according to the arrest warrant. He then ordered her into the passenger seat of his Chevrolet Impala and drove about 15 minutes north to Alsen Park on Old Rafe Meyer Road, the warrant says.

Once parked, he retrieved a hammer from his trunk and hit her on the leg four times before she managed to break away to a nearby house and call police, the warrant says.

The warrant says the woman, who did not sustain any visible injuries, refused medical treatment.

Police booked Minor, of 4955 Monarch Drive, Baton Rouge, into Parish Prison on a count of aggravated battery and second-degree kidnapping.
