Baton Rouge law enforcement responded to two unrelated shootings on Monday night that left one man shot and a 2-year-old injured.

In one of the shootings, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired at 8:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of Denova Street, where they found a man walking in the street with a gunshot wound, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

The man was taken to a hospital, where his condition was not yet clear. Deputies are still piecing together what happened, Hicks said.

About 9 p.m., Baton Rouge police responded to a call of shots fired in the 2500 block of Laurel Street near North 25th Street. No one appears to have been shot in that incident, although a 2-year-old was taken to the hospital, said Cpl. Don Coppola, a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

Police have since determined that the child was not shot, though it is not yet clear how the child was injured.
