Man booked in fracas; 1 shot, infants injured

An arrest has been made in the June 19 fracas outside a Baton Rouge home in which a man was shot in the face while trying to wrest a stick from another man who smashed his car window, causing glass to spray over three infants sitting inside, one of whom was hit with the stick.

The man arrested, McKinley Coleman, 25, arrived at a home on Leonidas Drive that day with several other people ready to fight according to the affidavit of probable cause. The woman and her boyfriend were visiting the boyfriend’s uncle, and they brought along her three kids, one of whom is Coleman’s son.

Coleman grabbed a stick and smashed the car window, sending shards all over the children, including his son, and hitting one of them with a stick in the process.

When the woman’s boyfriend, who also had a son in the car, tried to wrestle the stick from Coleman, someone who arrived with Coleman shot the man in the face.

Coleman, 3675 Fairwoods Drive, Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on Thursday on counts of principal to attempted first-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and aggravated criminal damage to property.

The arrest status of the other assailants, who took off before police arrived, is unclear.

Police book teen in rape of 14-year-old

A 17-year-old boy was booked in the rape of a 14-year-old girl in his bedroom early Thursday morning.

The girl didn’t know Decalvin Paul that well when she went to his house late Wednesday night, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The two went into Paul’s bedroom and started kissing, but Paul then raped her despite her repeated pleas for him to stop, the affidavit says.

Paul, 4941 Byron Ave., Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on a count of forcible rape.

Brother arrested in attack on sister, man

One of two brothers accused of robbing and beating their sister and another man while they sat in an idling car — and then flipping an infant nephew’s car seat upside down while the child was still strapped inside — was arrested Thursday.

It was unclear Friday whether the other brother and a third assailant have been arrested in the incident.

On Feb. 26, moments after the brothers pulled up to the parking lot at 1809 Jade Ave. in a Chevrolet Impala, Christopher Marshall jumped out along with his brother and another person and started attacking the unsuspecting victims, according to the arrest warrant. They hit the woman in the head and dragged the man out of the car and beat him until he lost consciousness, the warrant says. In the fracas, one of the assailants flipped the child’s car seat upside down.

The attackers also took cellphones from the man and woman and $1,200 in cash.

The man was taken to a hospital for a concussion and a split lip, the warrant says.

Christopher Marshall, 25, of 8757 Granite Drive, Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on second-degree robbery, simple robbery, second-degree battery, simple battery and cruelty to a juvenile.

64-year-old booked in cruelty case against girl

A Baton Rouge man was booked Thursday in Parish Prison on cruelty to a juvenile in the May 20 beating of a 16-year-old girl.

The girl was attacked with a decorative fan as well as a crutch inside the Baton Rouge home of Alden Labauve, 64, while a friend of the man had pulled her to the floor by her hair and held her there, according to the arrest warrant.

After an argument among the girl, Labauve and Labauve’s acquaintance, the girl first tried to hide in a room of the house, according to the arrest warrant. But Labauve and the acquaintance went inside the room, and that is when Labauve grabbed the decorative fan that was against the wall and started hitting her across her body. He then resorted to a crutch to keep hitting her.

The girl went to school the next day, but an official noticed her injuries. She was later taken to a hospital for cuts across her arms and her leg, the warrant says.

The warrant does not list any further information about Labauve’s acquaintance.
