Police are still trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding a Saturday afternoon shooting that killed a 42-year-old Baton Rouge man and left another wounded at a used car lot.

Detectives spent Sunday investigating the case but haven’t yet identified a suspect or possible motive in the shooting, said Sgt. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

Drexel Platt, of 6405 Howell Range Ave., died at a hospital after he was shot. The second victim, a 50-year-old man who hasn’t been identified by police, is expected to survive his wounds, though it was unclear Sunday if he remained in the hospital.

The pair were shot about 1 p.m. while they were at QU’s Auto Sales near the intersection of North Foster Drive and Jefferson Avenue.

A relative of Platt’s, who didn’t give her name, said by phone Sunday that the family is in mourning over his death and declined further comment. Attempts to reach family of the man wounded in the shooting were unsuccessful.

An autopsy for Platt is scheduled for Monday, said Dr. William “Beau” Clark, the East Baton Rouge Parish coroner.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
