A man who was shot and wounded in the chest Tuesday at a long-term stay hotel on Boardwalk Drive has been taken to a hospital, Baton Rouge police said.

The shooting took place at Crossland Economy Studios just off Harrell’s Ferry Road and Interstate 12 shortly after 5 p.m.

The man was shot in a room at the hotel, then ran to the hotel’s main office for help, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a Baton Rouge police spokesman. A trail of blood leading from the room was clearly visible behind police tape Tuesday evening.

McKneely described the man’s wounds as “serious but not life-threatening.” McKneely said detectives hadn’t yet identified the shooter or uncovered a possible motive in the shooting.

Bobbie Hurley, a resident of the hotel, said she never heard any gunshots, but when she went down to get her mail, she saw the victim being taken away on a stretcher.

As the paramedics were taking him to an ambulance, Hurley said he told her he had been “shot five times.”

She said she did not know the victim.
