Baton Rouge Police are investigating the death of a man found in the 6600 block of Scenic Highway early Friday as a homicide. 

Police spokesman Sgt. L'Jean McKneely, who did not release the man's identity, said the victim was found near the sidewalk along the road Friday and confirmed he was shot in an incident that detectives have classified as a homicide. 

The initial call about the incident came in about 5:30 a.m. Friday morning.

A grocery bag, a full bottle and full can of alcoholic beverages and a pair of sunglasses were left behind at the spot where authorities said the man was found.
