Zachary police Thursday arrested a 35-year-old man accused of raping a shuttle driver who managed to escape her attacker and run to a nearby house.
The assailant, Kendrick Carter, was being transported to his home and while en route began making inappropriate comments to the victim from a back seat of the van, according to the arrest report.
Uncomfortable with Carter’s advances, the victim pulled into a driveway in the 23300 block of Old Scenic Highway, detectives said. Carter then climbed into the front seat and began sexually assaulting the victim, the report says.
After screaming and honking the van’s horn, the victim was able to escape to a nearby house to call for help, detectives said.
Carter ran toward a nearby field and was arrested shortly after, the report says. He denied the attack and told detectives he got out of the van because he wanted to walk home.
Carter, 1313 Cordova Drive, Zachary, was booked into Parish Prison on a count of forcible rape. A judge set his bail at $75,000, booking records show.
