Baton Rouge police search for man accused of raping 13-year-old girl who later tests positive for HIV _lowres

Justin Posey

UPDATE, 7:30 a.m. Wednesday: Justin Posey was arrested after he turned himself in Tuesday night to police, Baton Rouge Police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said Wednesday morning.

Original story:

A 13-year-old girl who discovered she was HIV-positive during a routine blood test last week told the nursing staff a 17-year-old man raped her in August.

The girl was admitted to a Lafayette hospital Oct. 27 because she was having suicidal thoughts, and after her blood test results came back positive for HIV, she told nursing staff Justin M. Posey had raped her on Aug. 16 while she was at her uncle’s Baton Rouge house, 3236 Midway Ave., according to the warrant for Posey’s arrest, issued Monday.

The girl told Baton Rouge Police during an interview Thursday at the Children’s Advocacy Center that she was in a bedroom with some of her cousins and friends when everyone began to leave the room. She started to follow them out, but Posey grabbed her arm and pulled her back into the room, shutting the door, the warrant says. She told detectives Posey slammed her onto the bed and raped her.

The girl told police she tried to get away but Posey was holding her arms down, the warrant says. The victim said she screamed several times but no one could hear her because there was loud music playing in the house.

The girl also told police that Posey, who remains at large, later sent her a message through Instagram trying to get her phone number.

She said she had been admitted to the hospital on two separate occasions since then because she was having suicidal thoughts in response to what happened.

The girl picked Posey out of a six-person photo lineup as the person who raped her in August, the warrant says.

Posey, 3118 Jackson Ave., is wanted on first-degree rape and indecent behavior with a juvenile, Baton Rouge Police spokesperson Cpl. L’Jean McKneely Jr. said in a news release Tuesday.

Posey is also wanted on armed robbery with a firearm after he was accused of using a pistol to rob two of his friends who were leaving a corner store to go back to school, the warrant says. While Posey “held the pistol on them,” his cousin patted the two victims down and took their cellphones and headphones. Posey and his 16-year-old cousin ran away afterward.

The two victims, ages 17 and 18, and Posey’s cousin later told police what happened, the warrant says.

Police urge anyone with information on Posey’s whereabouts to contact the Juvenile-Sex Crimes Division at (225) 389-3853 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
